On March 27th I celebrated 9 months being natural and a full year since my last perm. I did have a moment (after putting a perm in my cousin’s hair) where I thought maybe I should perm my hair. Then I thought about the issues I had when I had a perm and that I no longer have, and I said “naw I’m good with what GOD gave me”
I’ve sort of switch up my routine, I haven’t been washing/cowashing my hair as much. I still use the same products as before though. Now I cowash my hair once a week, twist it up then let it
down on Fridays. I usually wear my twist-out from Friday to Tuesday then cowash on Wednesday.
Once a month I shampoo my hair and I have also added the cherry lola treatment to my monthly routine.
Here are a couple of recent pictures:
This picture is right before my 9 month anniversary. I did a cherry lola treatment then set my hair in coils. The coil twist out didn’t come out the way I wanted so I pinned the sides and back up and dealt with it
This style I did a full wash (DC, shampoo, conditioner) then set my hair in big twist. I really liked the way my twist out came out. I achieve the curls I’ve been trying for and my hair was so soft. I pinned my hair in a faux hawk. You can’t really see my style from the picture but this is the best one I had and I just LOVED my hair this day.
This is the twist out from up above, it was about 2 days old
Yesterday, I celebrated my 8 months post BC! The pic on the left was taken a week before actually hitting the 8 month mark but you can see how much my hair has grown. I still excited to be on this natural hair journey and can not wait until it gets bigger and longer to try out different styles
OAN if you look at my previous post about the Cherry Lola treatment, you can see a major difference in my hair. The picture on the left and the previous post pictures, my hair was flat twist the same exact way.
I tried the Cherry Lola treatment yesterday and I must say that I love it! I will definitely be adding it to my regiment. My hair was extremely soft after I rinse it out and my curls were popping. Plus I had a lot less frizz then I usually have. I flat twist my hair yesterday and didn’t plan on taking them out until Friday or Saturday but MVA said I had to retake my license picture. So that meant I had to take out my twist this morning. I was very happy with the results. It’s not as big or frizzy as the last twist out I did.
I was finally able to achieve a successful coil twistout. I started with the coils being pinned down, then decided I wanted them curly. I wore the coils for a few days before pulling them apart. I had the back of my head pinned up.
I palm rolled the coils on fresh washed hair and I used eco styler gel for the hold.
I took my box braids out after having them in for 2 months. I wanted to keep them in longer but my scalp started to get irritated.
After I took my braids out, I took all day to treat my hair. I used Cantu shea butter natural hair deep treatment masque. I did NOT like it at all. I don’t know about others but it made my hair hard.
When I went to wash my hair this past Sunday, I decided to try the avocado treatment. Again it made my hair hard but my curls were popping! I should have taken a picture but I was upset that my hair felt so stiff. I used my Suave coconut conditioner right to soften my hair up and I still had curls but with major shrinkage.
I may try the avocado conditioner again but use coconut milk instead of mayonnaise. Or just go back to Elasta QP deep penetrating remoisturizing conditioner, it worked perfect on my hair.
This is a picture of my hair after the final rinse. I put my hair in twist and used rods on the ends to make it curlier.
I am really happy with how my hair is growing. I can not wait to have big hair!
It’s been six months since I chopped all my hair off. I think some people are still in disbelief that I actually cut off all my hair. My mother is still saying “I can’t believe Miss Bourgeois has gone natural.”
Anyway, I still have the box braids in that I got a week before Thanksgiving. I have about an inch (give or take) of new growth. I wash my hair about two weeks ago but didn’t condition (bad) afterwards. I’ve been using coconut oil and JBCO to oil my scalp. However, I noticed this weekend that I have some flaking. So I am going to wash my hair again and this time make sure I condition afterwards. Hopefully, the flaking will go away.
I plan on keeping the braids in until the end of January then I may get bigger box braids or marley twist. I haven’t really decided yet. Either way I will make sure I post a picture.
